Sociology MSc

The Masters in Sociology will develop a critical understanding of sociology, through enhanced knowledge of empirical studies and sophistication in the use of theoretical skills.<br/><br/>**WHY THIS PROGRAMME**<br/>- The programme will develop your knowledge of the different theoretical and analytical approaches in sociology, together with knowledge of empirical studies in social research, while enabling you to focus in depth upon particular areas of sociology.<br/><br/><br/>- You will also be given some research methods training.<br/><br/><br/>- Sociology at Glasgow is ranked 4th in the UK by the Times & Sunday Times Good University Guide 2025 and 4th in the UK by the Complete University Guide 2025.<br/><br/><br/>**PROGRAMME STRUCTURE**<br/>You will take two core and four optional courses.<br/><br/>You will also produce a sustained account of research in a chosen area, and conduct empirical or theoretical research in that area, through a dissertation project.<br/><br/>**Core courses**<br/>Current Issues in Social Theory<br/>PGT Research Design in Practice<br/><br/>**Optional courses**<br/>Anthropology of Global Health<br/>Diaspora: The Experience of Migration, Displacement and Difference<br/>The Disabling Society<br/>Gender diversity<br/>Class and Stratification<br/>Gender Relations (Contemporary Critical Approaches)<br/>Rethinking Justice<br/>Racism And Capitalist Modernity<br/>Religion In Society<br/><br/>You will need to take at least three courses from this list.
