MA Digital Humanities and Culture gives you specialist training and knowledge to create, analyse and manage digital texts and media, to understand and critically appraise cultural data and artefacts, and to explore the impact and future potential of artificial intelligence, digital tools and media in diverse contexts. The course draws on the unique breadth of expertise in digital arts, humanities and cultural industries from across the University of Leeds and offers you the opportunity to work with the university’s unique historical and cultural collections at the Brotherton Library. You will collaborate on projects with internal and/or external partners, developing your experience of real-world issues around digital media, heritage and culture and giving you demonstrable skills in the creation and critical appraisal of texts and digital objects, their creators and audiences. This may include the use of specialist software for digital text analysis, learning programming languages i.e. Python, familiarity with local and global policy and ethics around technology and AI, and quantitative and qualitative digital research methods. <br/><br/>As an MA student you will be part of the University of Leeds’ vibrant and internationally recognised research culture in digital humanities. You will select from the diverse modules to design a bespoke curriculum suited to your professional and academic needs. You can choose to pursue themes, for example, in digital textual and scholarly editing; the technologies of heritage and cultural archives; histories of media and writing; digital creative practice and content design; and textual and data analytics, among others. The course capstone research project gives you the opportunity to focus on a key area of interest, working independently to produce an original piece of critical and/or creative work. <br/><br/>During the programme, you are encouraged to take a problem-solving approach to your learning and assessments, supported by experienced researchers and tutors. The course provides options for professional development through internal and external collaborations with our national and international partners, building your professional and academic networks and advancing your skills for the digital workplace.
