How can we make sense of the turbulent post-pandemic world and its possible futures? Sociology examines social relations and structures of power in their local and global manifestations, in the present moment and across time. It also helps us to envision alternative futures. This distinctive MA Sociology offers you the theoretical and practical tools for understanding the political, social and ecological crises with which we are currently confronted - and for imagining how the world might be different.<br/><br/>You will engage with both foundational and emerging sociological approaches to understanding:<br/><br/><br/>- capitalism and intersectional inequalities<br/><br/><br/>- the roots and impacts of climate change<br/><br/><br/>- health and disability<br/><br/><br/>- human rights and social movements.<br/><br/><br/>Taking perspectives from the Global South as well as the UK, this Masters degree in sociology examines the transnational contemporary social relations and formations, the histories from which they emerge, and how people in particular contexts have sought to change them.<br/><br/>You will consider key interventions in critical sociological theory, including from:<br/><br/><br/>- post and decolonial studies<br/><br/><br/>- race critical, feminist and indigenous studies<br/><br/><br/>- psychoanalytic theory<br/><br/><br/>- critical ecologies.<br/><br/><br/>You will also receive an advanced introduction to sociological theories of knowledge production and approaches to research. You will also be able to use the rich research resources nearby including Senate House Library, the British Library of Political and Economic Science (the LSE Library), the SOAS Library and the British Library.<br/><br/><br/><br/><strong>Careers and employability</strong><br/><br/>This MA Sociology is especially designed to develop the sociological knowledge and skills - including analytical and communication skills - you will be able to apply in a range of future employment situations, as well as in further study at MPhil/PhD level.<br/><br/>85% of recent graduates in this area have gone into full-time employment, while the rest continued into further study.
