Our four-year Environmental Science and Geography with Integrated Masters bridges two fascinating subjects, embedding masters-level study into your undergraduate experience. Alongside advanced training in laboratory work, fieldwork, and data analysis, youll develop the high-level independent research skills that will set you apart in specialist careers or doctoral study.

Why choose this course?
• Geography and Environmental Sciences is No.1 in the West Midlands for student satisfaction (Complete University Guide, 2026)

• Keeles 600-acre campus provides opportunities to study geographical features, ecosystems and sustainability initiatives

• Graduate with a masters-level qualification

• Develop advanced research expertise through an extended MSci project, building analytical, project management and investigation skills

• Gain extensive practical experience through laboratory work, field courses and real-world data collection using diverse environmental techniques

Our Environmental Science and Geography MSci brings together two complementary and highly relevant disciplines, preparing you to tackle pressing global environmental challenges. You will develop an in-depth understanding of the Earth’s physical processes and the complex interactions between the environment and human activity, with a focus on climate change, environmental impact assessment, water resource management, ecotoxicology, and landscape evolution.
Employability is embedded throughout the curriculum, with a strong emphasis on practical skill development through fieldwork, laboratory work, collaborative projects and applied problem-solving. You will gain hands-on experience using specialist equipment, environmental samples and digital tools in modern laboratories, alongside developing a wide range of field techniques through residential and day field courses in diverse environments.

The first year introduces the fundamental principles of chemical, ecological, and geographical studies that form the foundation of environmental science and physical geography. This comprehensive introductory programme sets the stage for developing deeper knowledge, understanding, and skills. In the second year, the focus shifts to enhancing practical and research skills and gaining a more profound scientific understanding of various environmental issues. The third year offers you the flexibility to either specialise in a specific area or maintain a broad focus, while continuing to build on the essential skills and techniques of environmental science and physical geography. The year culminates in an independent research project, giving you the opportunity to apply your acquired techniques and explore a topic of your choice.

In your final year, you will design and conduct an in-depth extended research project, including formulating a complete research strategy and producing a grant proposal. During this time you will develop advanced independent technical and analytical skills through hypothesis-driven investigation, under the guidance of an academic supervisor and the wider research team.

About Keele
Keele University was established in 1949 by the former Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University.
