Overview
Our accelerated, two-year postgraduate course is aimed at graduates who wish to prepare to practise as a registered speech and language therapist. Our course content reflects the values of the NHS constitution and combines theory and practical sessions over 45 weeks per year.

<strong>Overview</strong><br/><br/>Our accelerated, two-year postgraduate course is aimed at graduates who wish to prepare to practise as a registered speech and language therapist. Our course content reflects the values of the NHS constitution and combines theory and practical sessions over 45 weeks per year. <br/><br/>You’ll study topics including developmental language disorder, stroke, and difficulties with eating, drinking or swallowing (dysphagia). You’ll explore areas such as autism and stammering, mental health, speech sound disorders, augmentative and alternative communication, and neurological conditions. <br/><br/>You’ll go on placement in both years of study and have further practice-based learning experiences. Some of the placements you might experience include working with children and young people with special educational needs (SEN) provision in clinic settings and schools, working with children with autism in a residential complex, and working with adults with learning disabilities and adults recovering from strokes in hospital. <br/><br/><strong>Features and benefits</strong><br/><br/><br/>- <strong>Placement opportunities</strong> - You’ll spend at least 563 hours on placements to develop your clinical practice and have exposure to different settings. <br/><br/><br/>- <strong>Specialist facilities</strong> - You’ll have access to our on-campus ICON Centre, which features a wide range of specialist speech and language therapy equipment and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).<br/><br/><br/>- <strong>Our expertise</strong> - Our dedicated technicians help you to learn how to use our high-tech equipment and provide workshops and training on our specialist facilities.<br/><br/><br/>- <strong>Accredited course</strong> - When you graduate, you’re eligible to apply for professional registration with the HCPC, which means you can practise as a speech and language therapist, and to apply for membership of the RCSLT.<br/><br/><br/>- <strong>Postgraduate community </strong> - You can join our student-run Speech Society – past activities include guest lectures from people who use AAC and fundraising events.<br/>
