Review of UCL

(5)·By Alana E·Philosophy· Jun 2023
UCL has a bright bubbling campus. There are always activities and things going on within campus as you walk from lecture to lecture. People are so friendly and easily approachable. The teaching is of a high standard and module convenors are easy to contact for help. There could be more smaller study spaces and common areas for group work, especially since campus and libaries are always full. There are a few cute coffee shops on campus with affordable prices. Location is prime with lots of shops, pubs and food places.

Psychology, Graduate

I'm currently pursuing my postgrad in health psychology and University has been absolutely great!
I've made many friends and we go out often to bars and pubs as well as for meals!
My lecturers are very passionate about their field and the work they do and are active researchers in their field!
My course administrator has also been fabulous, replying emails very quick and helping us solve any problems such as room booking etc.
love the fact that we are also given placements for our course.
UCL has been an amazing experience!

Pharmacology and pharmacy, Year 1

(5)·By Alexander E·Pharmacology / Pharmacy· Oct 2018
It's been pretty decent. Loads of new people there to meet and great experiences so far. Being in a strongly academically focused place provides an even stronger drive to pursue you interests and maintain focused. The facility available are next to none - facilitating a premium learning experience in regards to the practical aspect. Being in the heart of London is mesmerising, and adds an element of cultural diversity - emphasising the importance of collaborating with others and unionising to develop ourselves into contributing academics of the future.

Medicine, Year 2

(5)·By Kaivalya·Medicine· Jul 2021
It was really good, there were lots of fresher events organised by societies and the uni. Nights out were fun, became best friends with my flatmates and got to hang out with lots of other medics at medic events! I stayed at Astor College which was recently refurbished. It was amazing, the rooms are small (but so are all rooms in London) but very modern. The common room was beautiful and facilities were great. Security was a bit strict on guests unfortunately. Lots of choice with the libraries, the Student Centre is gorgeous but always full. My favourite was the Cruciform library for medics - good combination of work and socialising. Bloomsbury fitness had squash courts which is a huge bonus. Student union are a little hard to contact and slow to respond (from a society's perspective). Course was challenging but rewarding. Some lecturers are very passionate and are great at taking time to answer questions. Other sessions such as tutorials and anatomy labs were very enjoyable, but dry labs were pointless. Amazing, I have no regrets about staying in London. Always something to do, no matter how niche your interests are. Clubbing and night life is unparalleled.

History, Graduate

My university is great. The campus is massive and there are so many libraries to choose from, which makes finding resources really easy. My university experience has been amazing due to the great people I've met and how independent this experience has made me.

Biology / Biotechnology, Graduate

(5)·By Linda S·Biology· Jul 2021
Lots of fun activities and socials planned by the UCLU and ULU student unions, sports societies offering tasters, opportunities for nights out etc. Lived in cheapest self-catered halls furthest from uni so didn't always feel safe. 10 of us sharing one kitchen so can get messy. However only lives in halls in first year. Very large lecture halls, beautiful architecture throughout - although also means some classrooms are old and wooden etc. Great student centre although sometimes difficult to find PCs or space in libraries. Centre of excellence for cutting edge research, opportunity to work and learn from world leading experts in the field, very exciting, innovative and open minded environment London has everything going on and always lots of fun things, culture, food etc to explore and learn from.

Biology / Biotechnology, Year 2

The lecturers were very welcoming. All the students were very fun and outgoing. Freshers week really helped me integrate myself into the university. UCL accommodation was also very welcoming. There was a welcome party on the first day which allowed me to meet a lot of people. UCL Library and classrooms are very modern and clean. The buildings are well maintained and easy to find. The biotechnology course is great. There is an engineering part, which is why I chose UCL over universities who had very similar courses for biochemistry and biotechnology. The lecturers explain very well and the material taught is always interesting. My UCL accommodation in first year was near King's Cross so it was great to be in the heart of London and it was, at the same time, not too busy which allowed me to have a calm student life when needed as well.

Chemistry, Year 2

I didn't really participate as I was a post grad student it was a slightly different vibe. Again being a postgrad I didn't stay in the ucl accommodation I have lived in private rentals instead. Facilities are good being close to lots of things, library always open and there are a few of them the gyms are also good with the uni one and then others nearby you're spoilt for choice. The student union is also cool but again as a postgrad I haven't used it much I think it's more for undergrads. Highly acclaimed university means studying here is quite an opportunity. My course isn't taught it's research so tricky to say about lectures. I love London, there's so much happening all the time every night, everything is so close without feeling like you're not living in the real world being on a uni campus.

University gives you a great amount of freedom regarding living on your own as well as with your choice of education.

The costs of living in London do soon however catch up to you, and can become a very big burden. It's nice to always have something going on, as well as having l chances to explore and learn new things.

Most of my lecturers have been on TV and are undeniably knowable in their field of research. communication between myself and the staff has been outstanding. Feedback on work is actually helpful. UCL provides amazing facilities in a lot of locations.
