Animal Sciences PhD
Course Overview - Animal Sciences PhD
We have an international reputation for work in the areas of animal reproduction, development and production. Our research in the area of animal production covers major livestock species, with focuses on the biological basis of feed efficiency and sustainability in ruminant and non-ruminant systems.
We have expertise in dairy science with focus on nutritional strategies for enhancing animal health. Our expertise is being applied to the need for novel and sustainable approaches to increase food production.

Our expertise is being applied to the need for novel and sustainable approaches to increase food production.

Work is carried out mostly on domestic species, although occasionally wild populations are studied, and findings are related to human and animal medicine.

We also investigate quantitative aspects of animal tissues during development and regeneration, in those species capable of this trait, by developing and using state-of-the-art computational modelling and image analyses techniques.

Specific research areas:

• Animal nutrition, food security and environmental impact

• Animal physiology

• Maternal and neonatal animal nutrition and health

• Monogastric research

• Embryology and development

• Reproductive function and health

• Stem cells and reprogramming

• Nutritional biochemistry

• Animal science research

• Animal behaviour and welfare

• Tissue regeneration

• Computational modelling of tissues in development and regeneration

• Mechanics of animal tissues

• The School of Biosciences research website contains more information on the animal and livestock research group and academic contact details.
