For those wishing to pursue a career path towards legal practice, this renowned degree gives you a strong foundation for the future with its strong focus on analysis, problem solving, attention to detail, argument and communication. It’s an excellent option for students pursuing a legal career or with a general interest in law.<br/><br/>In your first year you’ll study the core principles of law and learn the skills you need to read and apply legal authorities, such as case reports, academic commentary, Acts of Parliament and EU legislation. Your second and third years will allow you to choose from a broad range of specialist fields – such as human rights law, criminology, intellectual property and medical negligence.<br/><br/>Students accepted into this programme may then opt to apply for the competitive and highly prestigious, LLB Law in Practice. This extended, four-year degree gives you the unique opportunity to complete an eight-month, paid work placement at a leading legal service provider with whom we partner. These employer opportunities are at a number of international law firms, an in-house legal team, family law practices and a charity.

We will hold all UCAS applications until January before drawing up a shortlist based on the information in the UCAS form about your pre-Access experience, academic record, personal statement and academic reference. In February and March, applicants are shortlisted and an updated academic reference may be requested. A shortlisted applicant may be invited for interview or further assessment. The minimum academic requirement is to achieve 60 credits overall, with 45 credits at Level 3, all of which must be at Distinction. (The School of Law may specify particular Level 3 subjects in which we require a Distinction.) Typically, successful candidates are aged 21 and above at the start of the Access programme.
