International Hospitality Business Management with Foundation Year BSc (Hons)

**Please check the Sheffield Hallam University website for the latest information.**<br/><br/>**Course summary**<br/><br/><br/>- Study your foundation year, then progress to a degree with industry accreditation from the Institute of Hospitality (IoH).<br/><br/><br/>- Study the management of food, beverages, hotel tactics and revenue.<br/><br/><br/>- Develop vital skills in marketing, leadership and project management.<br/><br/><br/>- Take opportunities to study abroad, gain experience and study a language.<br/><br/><br/>- Collaborate with a hospitality business on a consultancy project.<br/><br/><br/>On this course you’ll study all aspects of hospitality operations – from enhancing your customer service skills in our professional kitchen and restaurant space to developing your strategic thinking. You’ll develop into a socially conscious hospitality professional who’s able to meet the sustainability needs of tomorrow’s customers.<br/><br/>**How you learn**<br/><br/>All our courses are designed around a set of key principles based on engaging you with the world, collaborating with others, challenging you to think in new ways, and providing you with a supportive environment in which you can thrive.<br/><br/>The course is suitable if you dont meet the entry requirements for our BSc (Hons) International Hospitality Business Management course, or you want extra preparation before starting degree-level study. You share the first year with other Sheffield Business School foundation year students, then move on to the degree.<br/><br/>You are taught by lecturers with a rich industry background from serving the Queen to opening new hotels and owning catering businesses who infuse teaching with research, industry expertise and passion for hospitality. Youll learn useful skills such as academic writing, work in diverse teams and learn to utilise a wide variety of data sources. In doing so, youll fully prepare yourself for undergraduate study.<br/><br/>**Applied learning**<br/><br/>**Live projects**<br/><br/>Opportunities for learning are not just limited to the classroom. Your final year requires you to consult directly with a hospitality business to resolve a real-life business issue. Depending on the specialist route you have chosen you may: plan and deliver a hospitality event, engage in culinary product development or design and analyse a hospitality marketing campaign.<br/><br/>**Networking opportunities**<br/><br/>Industry interaction comes formally through visiting speakers and informally through our association with the Institute of Hospitality, our strong alumni network and the activities of our hospitality society. Were proud to be one of the founding partners of the Classroom to Boardroom event, which introduces you to a variety of stakeholders through the medium of round table discussions and networking activities.<br/><br/>**Competitions**<br/><br/>Youre encouraged to participate in competitions which celebrate success within the industry. Previous students have been winners or finalists of The Young Guns competition, an industry award that recognises those who have excelled during their placement year. Students have also participated in Passion 4 Hospitality, Young Hoteliers Summit and Zest Quest Asia and many others.
