Classics is the study of languages, literature, history, art, and archaeology of ancient civilisations, thus making it a perfect compliment to history.<br/><br/>Knowledge and study of the ancient world was vitally important in later periods of history. <br/><br/>Knowledge of the classical world is an important tool for historians of all periods, places, and themes. <br/><br/>**History**<br/><br/>We offer an exceptionally wide range of courses, covering: <br/><br/><br/>* historical periods from the early Middle Ages to the contemporary world <br/><br/><br/>* geographical regions including Britain and Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas <br/><br/><br/>Our history courses also cover a wide variety of approaches to the past, including: <br/><br/><br/>* political history <br/><br/><br/>* cultural history <br/><br/><br/>* social history <br/><br/><br/>* economic history <br/><br/><br/>* intellectual history <br/><br/><br/>* gender history <br/><br/><br/>* global and transnational history <br/><br/><br/>**Classics**<br/><br/>On the classics side of the programme, you will be able to study Latin language and literature or Greek language and literature.<br/><br/>Or you can choose to study one or more of: <br/><br/><br/>* ancient history <br/><br/><br/>* classical art and archaeology <br/><br/><br/>* classical literature in translation<br/>
