Course Overview
Launching in January 2025, this Master’s programme is among the first in the world to focus on this area and gives you the opportunity to work on a real-world challenge set by industry.

The development and implementation of in vitro diagnostics is growing in importance. As technological and practical advancements lead to the creation of more sophisticated and effective healthcare devices, care providers are moving towards a more personalised, community-based approach, away from traditional hospital-centric care.

An example of this shift in care is point of care testing (POCT). The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends the development and increased roll out of accurate, rapid, and affordable POCT - essential for more effective infection identification, regardless of the healthcare infrastructure.

This change in delivery demands highly skilled biomedical scientists, alongside other health and care workers, with a solution-oriented mindset.

Industry Placement
Please note: you will be registered on the MSc Biomedical Sciences, which includes a research project. All students will get the opportunity to apply to undertake an industrial placement as an alternative to the research project. Placements, subject to availability, are on a competitive basis and are subject to an application and interview with the placement provider. If successful, you will be moved on to the MSc Biomedical Sciences with Industrial Practise.
