Through an innovative combination of theory and practice, you will develop your skills as a theatre-maker and creative thinker and prepare yourself for work in the creative industries and beyond. <br/><br/>Theatre asks questions and opens up experimental spaces for things to unfold and happen, all in the excitement of the shared time. Supported by internationally-recognised staff with a wide- range of expertise, on this degree you will experiment with texts, practices and production work and encounter a wide range of historic and contemporary theatre forms, from scripted drama to site-specific performance and from Shakespeare to experiments in new media. <br/><br/>The integrated foundation year - designed for prospective students who do not have a sufficient or relevant academic background - is the perfect option to access this highly-sort scheme. In the Foundation Year, you will learn about key concepts for Drama and Theatre from an inter-disciplinary angle, giving you a unique experience and critical perspective to make the most of the full undergraduate degree.<br/><br/>**Why study Drama and Theatre at Aberystwyth?**<br/>- This course is an opportunity to study a unique combination of theory and practice. <br/><br/><br/>- Students on this course can take part in two performances or production projects each year of the course. <br/><br/><br/>- There is three hours per week scheduled for dedicated performance training in the first year. <br/><br/><br/>- You will be taught and mentored by excellent teaching staff who have a wealth of expertise in professional theatre-making. <br/><br/><br/>- You will be part of a department that is creative and vibrant where drama, theatre, film, media, scenography and theatre design collide. <br/><br/><br/>- The department has connections with key industry partners, such as National Theatre Wales, Music Theatre Wales, Quarantine Theatre Company, and Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru. <br/><br/><br/>- All students have access to superb facilities and resources for practical work: three rehearsal studios, each with flexible technical facilities; 2 large professionally-equipped studios with digital lighting rigs controlled via ETC Congo and Strand Lighting consoles, Yamaha and Soundcraft PAs, Sanyo AV systems and Strand lighting and two NXAMP; and costume and wardrobe facilities.<br/><br/><br/>- During the Foundation year of the degree, you will explore a range of subjects, develop essential skills such as research and critical analysis, developing arguments and self-evaluation. <br/><br/><br/>Foundation year students have full access to all campus facilities, societies and everything else that Aberystwyth students’ community has to offer. You will be supported by the University personal tutor system and have access to Student Support and Careers Services. Funding and availability of student loans is identical to all other undergraduates and you can apply for a place through UCAS in the same way as any other of our undergraduate degrees.<br/><br/>There are few fixed entry requirements, but each applicant will be assessed on an individual basis to ensure that they are right for the course and that the course is right for them.

Access to HE DiplomaThe University welcomes undergraduate applications from students studying the Access to Higher Education Diploma, provided that relevant subject content and learning outcomes are met. We are not able to accept Access to Higher Education Diplomas as a general qualification for every undergraduate degree course. GCSE/National 4/National 5A minimum grade C or grade 4 pass in GCSE (or equivalent) English or Welsh is a requirement for entry to all our degree schemes. Level 3 KS/FS Communication may be acceptable in lieu of GCSE English or Welsh. |
