Explore the latest linguistics theories and apply them to your classroom practice.**<br/><br/>Study our MA Applied Linguistics and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) in Cambridge, a city famous for language teaching, and boost your career prospects with new critical and analytical skills.<br/><br/>On this course you’ll improve your theoretical understanding of language learning, which will help you to develop your professional teaching skills.<br/><br/>You’ll explore the latest theories in topics such as second language acquisition and classroom theory and practice, examining different methods of analysis. Your studies will be supported throughout by our research-active and industry-experienced academics, including DELTA-qualified professionals.<br/><br/>And if you already have the Delta or Trinity TESOL Diploma, we will give you 60 credits towards your degree.<br/><br/>As a Masters student at ARU, we’ll help you learn to carry out your own research and how to compile and analyse quantitative and qualitative data. You’ll be able to use the critical-evaluative skills you develop on your own research project at the end of the course, as well as in your future career.<br/><br/>Studying Applied Linguistics and TESOL will give you the chance to take part in our research seminars and high-profile conferences. We’ll also help you make valuable contacts for your future through our links to language companies such as EF, Bell, and Studio, a group for heads of language schools.<br/><br/>Whether you study full-time in Cambridge or part-time by distance learning, this postgraduate degree opens up opportunities for you to become part of the international academic and professional English Language teaching and language-learning community.<br/><br/>The impact of our English Language and Literature research was judged as world-leading in the Research Excellence Framework 2021 (REF2021).<br/><br/>Teaching times 2023-24 (subject to change for 2024-5): Monday 6-8pm, Thursday 6-8pm<br/><br/>**Careers**<br/><br/>Our MA Applied Linguistics and TESOL will help you prepare for many language-learning and teaching-related professions, such as teaching English and other languages (in the UK and abroad), and developing courses, tests, materials or language policy.<br/><br/>Graduation doesn’t have to be the end of your time with us. You could choose to continue your academic career with a research programme at ARU such as our PhD English Language and Linguistics or PhD English Language and Intercultural Communication. Take advantage of our Alumni Scholarship and save £400 on your fees.<br/><br/>If you studied for the Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma initially, you can choose to complete further modules and top-up to a full Masters degree.
