This innovative two-year course seeks to develop knowledge and understanding of key areas in sports coaching and performance analysis. Sports coaching and performance analysis have gone through dramatic transformations in recent years due to developments in technologies and investment in amateur and professional sport from sponsors and stakeholders. This has enabled coaches to receive objective data on players’ performance which can be used to inform tactical, technical and physical coaching. This new scientific evidence-based approach to sports coaching have raised standards in athlete and team development.<br/><br/>This course aims to develop knowledge and understanding of sports coaching techniques and principles, and the role of objective data from performance analysis in structuring coaching sessions. This enables the modern sports coach to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team to enhance performance of the athlete and / or team.<br/><br/>Those individuals hoping to pursue a career in performance analysis will also gain experience and knowledge of modern industry standard technology used in modern sports performance analysis. The technology available on the course includes STATSports GPS trackers, Veo sports camera, Polar and Garmin heart rate monitors and GPS units, Cortex MetaLab, blood analysis equipment and force plates. The course develops knowledge of these technologies and how the information gleaned from these technologies can be disseminated to coaches to inform coaching interventions.<br/><br/>Students on the course will also gain industry experience using these technologies within the Belfast Met Sports Academies including but not limited to football, rugby and boxing.<br/><br/>Opportunities exist to progress to top-up degrees in sports coaching and in performance analysis.<br/><br/>This course is delivered face-to-face.<br/><br/>The course consists of 11 modules which are:<br/><br/>Year 1<br/>Functional Anatomy and Physiology<br/>Foundations of Movement<br/>Practical Conditioning<br/>Study Skills<br/>Skill Acquisition and athlete learning<br/>Fitness Testing<br/>Year 2<br/>Principles of Sports Coaching<br/>Applied Performance Analysis<br/>Strength and Conditioning<br/>Statistics and data visualisation <br/>Work Based Learning<br/>*Belfast Met Terms and Conditions <br/><br/>Please read our Terms and Conditions before applying for or enrolling on any of our courses.<br/><br/>OU Handbooks and Regulations can be found under the Higher Education section of our public documents.
