What are the effects of different social and political perspectives on the role of education? How does social exclusion arise?<br/><br/>This postgraduate course in education and social justice provides you with well-grounded theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of education and social justice, as well as the opportunity for a comprehensive and critical analysis of literature on education, globalisation, power and resistances.<br/><br/>You will assess how historical perspectives explain todays educational conditions and critically examine the extent to which globalisation affects educational development.<br/><br/>A significant part of this course involves conducting independent research in a field of education and social justice, where you will distinguish between qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.<br/><br/>We offer this course as a Masters, Postgraduate Diploma and Postgraduate Certificate. For the Diploma and Certificate you study fewer modules and do not complete a dissertation.<br/><br/>**Highlights**<br/><br/><br/>- You can choose from a range of option modules in order to tailor the course to suit your developing interests or to select pathways relevant to your professional and personal needs and interests. You will also take a module on research methodologies, which will provide you with the tools to undertake an original piece of research into an aspect of education that interests you.<br/><br/><br/>- If youre not sure youre ready to do a Masters degree, you can choose to do either our Postgraduate Diploma or Postgraduate Certificate.<br/><br/><br/>- We investigate a wide range of issues of contemporary personal, social and political concern and work at the interface of theory and practice. Birkbeck has established a formal link with the University of São Paulo, Brazil.
