This distance / blended learning programme is aimed at students who have already completed a Foundation Degree or equivalent.<br/><br/>It aims to build on the skills and knowledge that were developed during related level 5 qualifications, whilst adding additional skills and knowledge with respect to canine behaviour and training. The programme promotes motivational, positive reinforcement training techniques.<br/><br/>It will enable the student to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of the subject specialism while embedding the necessary expertise to critically evaluate the concepts and apply them to real-world situations. <br/><br/>**What will I study?**<br/>Year 1:<br/>- Veterinary and Holistic Behaviour Modification<br/><br/><br/>- Counselling and Psychology<br/><br/><br/>- Dissertation <br/><br/><br/>Year 2:<br/>- Animal Cognition<br/><br/><br/>- Advanced Learning Theory<br/><br/><br/>- Dissertation.<br/><br/><br/>**Learning and Teaching Approach**<br/>This programme is delivered with a variety of learning and teaching approaches to include all students learning styles and preferences.<br/><br/>For all modules, theory lectures are delivered that aim to deliver the core content and provide the underpinning knowledge. Using the webinar software, staff are able to monitor engagement to ensure participations. To complement all theory lectures, students have asynchronous seminars that are used to reinforce concepts delivered theoretically.<br/><br/>Online webinars focus on facilitating a student centred approach to enhance the independent learning that takes place outside of the webinar lecture sessions.<br/><br/>**What is the contact time?**<br/>Lectures are delivered in three-hour sessions per week in the evenings, 6-9pm GMT. On occasions, this may be split over two evenings.<br/>In addition to the three hours in class, you will have additional tasks / activities set each week which need to be completed at a time to suit you during that week.<br/><br/>In total, contact time will be approximately four hours a week to include lectures, seminars, asynchronous sessions, support sessions. Additional to this time will be final project support sessions that you can book with your supervisor and individual tutorials with your Programme Leader. You will have four inidvidual tutorials in an academic year. <br/><br/>Students are also expected to carry out private study in addition to contact time (as a guide, each 20 credit module requires 200 hours of study time inclusive of lecture time).<br/><br/>This programme is delivered online. You can expect to receive your timetable during induction week. <br/><br/>**What kind of job could I get when I graduate?**<br/>Graduates can pursue careers such as: Dog trainer, behaviour consultant, assistance dog trainer, detection dog trainer, service dog trainer, Customs and Excise handler, training dogs for commercial work, rescue and rehabilitation work.
