Contemporary Criminology (Top Up) BA (Hons)

This programme examines traditional and contemporary thinking about the causes and effects of crime, how it impacts individuals and society. You will be encouraged to challenge strategies to explore crime whilst developing an up to date critical approach to current issues in the criminal justice sector. Through this programme you will have the opportunity to interact with professionals in the sector increasing your employability and skills.<br/><br/>**What will I study?**<br/>- Contemporary Issues in Criminology<br/><br/><br/>- Cybercrime<br/><br/><br/>- Homicide<br/><br/><br/>- Prison, Recidivism and Rehabilitation<br/><br/><br/>- Dissertation.<br/><br/><br/>**Learning and Teaching Approach**<br/>This programme is delivered with a variety of learning and teaching approaches to include all students’ learning styles and preferences.<br/><br/>For all modules, theory lectures are delivered that aim to deliver the core content and provide the underpinning knowledge. To complement the theory lectures, students have group seminar sessions that are used to reinforce concepts delivered theoretically.<br/><br/>The teaching methods focus on facilitating a student centered approach to enhance the independent learning that takes place outside of the classroom.<br/><br/>**Contact Time**<br/>Approximately 16 hours a week to include lectures, seminars, debates and tutorials. Students are also expected to carry out a significant amount of private study in addition to contact time (25-30 hours a week). Our students have gain employment as Police Constables, Prison Officers, Probation Officers and support networks for ex-offenders. Current students are volunteering as Police Specials.
