Criminology and Criminal Justice FdA

The FdA in Criminology and Criminal Justice facilitates students with the skills to explore and analyse the way in which society perceives and tackles crime. Students will study the social differences that impact society such as gender, age, religion and social class race.<br/><br/>The programme provides students with the knowledge, skills and experience to pursue a career within the criminal justice sector or continue their studies onto a relevant top-up degree.<br/><br/>**What will I study?**<br/>Year 1 (Level 4): <br/>- Academic and Professional Skills<br/><br/><br/>- Work Based Learning 1<br/><br/><br/>- Crime Fundamentals<br/><br/><br/>- Crime Process and Procedure<br/><br/><br/>- Social Research<br/><br/><br/>- Youth Deviance<br/><br/><br/>Year 2 (Level 5):<br/>- Work Based Learning 2<br/><br/><br/>- Social Research<br/><br/><br/>- Victimology<br/><br/><br/>- Crime Creation<br/><br/><br/>- Drugs and Society<br/><br/><br/>- Crime and Law.<br/><br/><br/>**Learning and Teaching Approach**<br/>This programme is delivered with a variety of learning and teaching approaches to include all students learning styles and preferences.<br/><br/>For all modules, theory lectures are delivered that aim to deliver the core content and provide the underpinning knowledge. To complement the theory lectures, students have group seminars that are used to reinforce concepts delivered theoretically.<br/><br/>**Contact Time**<br/>Approximately 16 hours a week to include lectures, seminars, debates and tutorials. Students are also expected to carry out a significant amount of private study in addition to contact time (25-30 hours a week). Our students have gone on to gain employment as Police Constables, Prison Officers, Probation Officers and support networks for ex-offenders. Current students are volunteering as Police Specials.
