Course Overview:<br/>The Diploma in Teaching (FE and Skills) is the nationally recognised route for ‘in service’ training for those working or aiming to work in the dynamic and wide-ranging post-compulsory sector (14 years and up). It will equip you with the knowledge and skills to work in FE colleges, Sixth from Colleges, Adult and Community Learning Providers, Independent Training Providers and Offender Learning programmes. Applicants who are not yet employed in education can also complete the course provided they can satisfy the placement hours requirements. <br/><br/>Course Highlight:<br/>This course is highly engaging and provides a solid foundation to become a successful teacher able to support and positively influence the future of their learners. It blends face to face delivery with high quality online materials to develop independent thinking and study skills whilst providing effective personal and professional tutoring to ensure your success.<br/><br/>Career Opportunities and Further Study:<br/>Upon successful completion, you will be qualified to teach in the post-16 and adult learning sector. The Level 5 Diploma in Teaching also will allow you to apply for Qualified Teaching and Learning Skills (QTLS) status through the Society for Education and Training.<br/><br/>Assessment:<br/>The course is part time and will last for 2 years. Throughout your studies you will gain a full understanding of the role of the teacher in supporting their learners to flourish and achieve.<br/><br/>The subjects studied are: <br/>• Teaching my subject <br/>• Learners and learning <br/>• Teachers and teaching <br/>• Professional practice <br/>• Effective digital and online pedagogies <br/>• Action research <br/>• Coaching and mentoring <br/>• Managing behaviour<br/><br/>Candidates will create 2 portfolios. One will show evidence of their knowledge through internal assignments and the other demonstrates their professional practice through lesson observations, assessing learner work and reflective journals. All candidates will also take part in an assessed oral discussion (viva)<br/><br/>Entry Requirements:<br/>All applicants must <br/>• Hold a level 2 in English & Maths (Functional skills level 2/ GCSE grade C or 4 and above)<br/>• Minimum level 3 subject specialism<br/>• Satisfactorily completed an initial assessment to show that ability to study at level 5. <br/><br/>Applicants will need access to at least 250 hours of placement which will include:<br/>• Minimum 150 of teaching practice (at least 100 hours in your specialist area)<br/>• Minimum 20 hours of online delivery <br/>• Minimum 20 hours in either another department or different teaching organisation. <br/><br/>Placements can be full-time, part-time or voluntary. <br/>Additionally, you will need two mentors, one specialist subject and one pastoral to support you through the programme.<br/>Prior to enrolment, original certificates are required to be seen and verified along with a copy of the applicants most recent enhanced DBS certificate.
