The Foundation Year aims to develop your skills so that after a year, you will be equipped with the necessary skills needed for studying the full BA Hons degree programme.<br/><br/>**Acting**<br/>Demand for individuals with knowledge and skills in the field of acting and performance is growing. This BA equips students with knowledge and understanding of history and practice of acting, and the skills to apply this knowledge to real-life settings across different disciplines.<br/><br/>The course provides an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the core areas of acting (histories and contemporary practices) and the opportunity to apply theories, methods, and approaches from drama, theatre and performance. Students will gain a critical understanding of acting plays a key role in local, national, and global contexts. They will also be supported to develop knowledge and awareness of contemporary issues in acting and the performing arts. <br/><br/>Situated within the School of Creative and Performing Arts, and taught by professors and lecturers from across the school, the course provides an intellectually stimulating environment in which students will acquire skills of critical thinking, independent learning and acting techniques. The transferable skills developed through the course will be relevant to a range of careers including teaching, mentoring, educational settings, and as well as equipping students for acting for the stage and screen.<br/><br/>**English Language**<br/>Language has a profound influence on the way we see, construct and interpret the world around us. It shapes our identities and culture and can be used to manipulate the way we think. The English Language degree examines a wide range of varieties of English in their social, cultural and<br/>historical contexts. It teaches you how to closely analyse texts ranging from everyday discourse to fictional narratives to the language of the media.<br/><br/>Studying English Language provides you with a sound knowledge of how language is structured, how it developed and spread globally, and how it functions both in society and in our minds, but it also equips you with a variety of practical critical and analytical skills. We pride ourselves on offering a challenging and stimulating degree with a wide range of innovative teaching and assessment methods, with an emphasis on how language is used for professional purposes and the practical skills valuable in selected careers.
