Food & Nutritional Sciences and Human Biology BSc (Hons)

Please note that Combined Honours degrees at Liverpool Hope University are split 50/50. This means both subjects will be studied equally<br/><br/>**Human Biology**<br/><br/>Human Biology is an ever-evolving branch of science that includes the study of the human body, the changes that occur in disease, and the interaction between humans and their environment. With this in mind, the Human Biology curriculum has been designed to provide a contemporary and dynamic programme to challenge students across a broad base, but with depth in areas of staff specialisms.<br/><br/>The curriculum includes the foundation disciplines of anatomy, cellular biology, molecular biology, physiology and metabolism. These will be delivered in the context of contemporary health issues including aging, obesity, cancer, infectious and non-communicative chronic diseases. Students will benefit from the input of research active scientists from across the range of disciplines within the School of Health Sciences. This will support the development of an integrated, innovative and applied programme of study that is the cornerstone of the curriculum of the School of Health Sciences. Graduates will leave the programme with a fully rounded skill set and with experience in a wide range of standard and specialist lab techniques. Graduates will gain experience, competence and confidence through small group learning, giving specialist and transferable skills, allowing them to succeed in a competitive and demanding employment market.<br/><br/>**Food & Nutritional Sciences**<br/><br/>Knowledge of food and nutritional science is becoming ever more vital, particularly given the increasing awareness of foods role in important issues such as health and disease and environmental sustainability. Consequently, individuals with expertise in these areas will play a key role in a diverse and wide range of professions, such as developing the safe, sustainable, and healthy foods of the future, creating public health nutrition strategies, and designing and implementing evidence-based nutritional guidelines. Our Food & Nutritional Sciences degree is focused on developing a set of practical, professional, and intellectual skills which are needed to develop a successful career in various roles across the commercial food sector and public health, as well as preparation for further study, working as a nutritionist, or pursuing a professional career in dietetics.<br/><br/>The course curriculum is broad yet deep and draws from the food, nutrition, and health sciences, as well as the social and behavioural sciences. There is also emphasis on elements including food product development and the food supply chain, health and wellbeing, sustainability, and the development of professional skills. You will be taught in our state-of-the-art Health Science building, which features specialist laboratories and equipment dedicated to the study of food, nutrition, and health. Those who decide to study for the Single Hons course will also be eligible for direct registration as a Registered Associate Nutritionist (ANutr) with the Association for Nutrition (AfN). <br/><br/>You will learn from a highly committed team of research-active UK Registered Nutritionists (supported with additional expertise in food science and technology, the biological sciences, and public health).
