Overview<br/>The International Labour Organisation estimate there are over a million work related deaths each year with over 100 million workers affected by accidents or through ill health. Companies are increasingly recognising that the protection of employees is of financial benefit and this degree programme utilises a range of approaches including process safety, behaviour based, management systems and adaptive systems to develop appropriate safety culture. In addition, you will gain the practical skills in environmental assessment that many employers align with health and safety functions.<br/><br/>Why study MSc/PGDip Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental Management at Middlesex University?<br/>This course has an emphasis on developing professional skills and is delivered by a mix of academics with a practice background and practitioners working in industry. The Universitys strong links within the industry and professional bodies mean that this course is highly regarded and well respected internationally.<br/><br/>For those of you with appropriate experience the programme will help generate greater understanding of your subject and becoming a competent practitioner who is able to influence health, safety and environmental improvement in the workplace. For those new to OH&S and working in organisations it prepares you for appropriate entry level roles. You will develop legal, technical and scientific knowledge to enable you to recognise, assess, and problem solve risks. You will gain insight into health and safety in a variety of industries including agriculture, construction, transport, and manufacturing, and will be able to develop an organisations safety and environmental policy, respond to accidents and improve your negotiation, advocacy, management, leadership, communication and teamwork skills.<br/><br/>All course tutors are practising consultants and have strong links with professional bodies, which ensures that you will be studying the latest developments and practices. Many are also active in research and you will be encouraged to undertake research which will be recognised within the industry.<br/><br/>If you do not wish to study the full MSc, you can apply to the PGDip where you study only eight modules, omitting the Dissertation.<br/><br/>Course highlights<br/>The course is accredited by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, which means you can become a graduate member of the institution when you complete the course, and can then gain chartered membership after two years professional development<br/>Youll have access to the Barbour Index, the UKs leading source of health and safety information, including statistics, information on legislation changes and training guides<br/>Our excellent facilities include a specialist environmental and occupational safety laboratory where youll carry out practical assessments, as well as specialist monitoring and other equipment<br/>As a student of this course youll receive a free electronic textbook for every module.
