If you have a passion for a particular subject and think you would enjoy working with young people and adults, helping to shape a positive future for them, then teaching in post-16 further or higher education could be for you. Providing a wide range of opportunities for students looking to start or progress their teacher or trainer career in the post-compulsory sector, we can find a course that will help you realise your ambition. If you have a degree but have never taught before or if you are an existing practitioner wishing to develop your career in the education sector by adding to your existing qualifications, we can help you on your journey to becoming a qualified teacher in the FE/ HE sector (please note these are not primary or secondary school training programmes).

During your studies you will be challenged with questions, scenarios, and problems as you develop your personal teaching style. You’ll gain real, first-hand experience, learning from the people in the roles you want to be in and from those who have been in your shoes. Benefiting from a personalised teacher mentor, we’ll help you develop the skills you need for employment.

Successful completion of a Certificate in Education, Professional Graduate Certificate in Education or Post-Graduate Certificate in Education programme with us can support the application for Qualified Teacher Learning & Skills status, through the Society for Education and Training.

Many of our trainees already work within the teaching sector (these are ‘In-Service’ trainees and can typically study their programme alongside working commitments), though some trainees do not currently work in the sector and may require placements arranging (these are ‘Pre-Service’ trainees).

**Pre-service**
If you’re looking to progress into a career teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector, including sixth form and further education colleges, adult education and a wide range of other training and educational settings, then this course could be ideal for you. We welcome applicants with industrial skills and/or relevant academic qualifications and a passion for teaching and training others.

We know there’s no substitute for the classroom environment, so we’ll give you the opportunity to go on placement with one of our partnership institutions. On your placement you’ll be able to observe experienced teachers, gain practical hands-on experience and benefit from one-to-one mentoring to help develop the skills you’ll need to become an outstanding and effective teacher.

As the course includes a work placement, you will be required to pay for an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

**In-service**
If you’re already working as a teacher or trainer at a recognised training or educational establishment within the education and training sector (former post-14 sector) and looking to progress your career, then this course will help you on your way.

**Why Lifelong Learning?**
- Upon successful completion of this course, you’ll be eligible to proceed to gain Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status, following a process of professional formation through the Society for Education and Training. Your QTLS is the full professional status for teachers in the Lifelong Learning sector.

- During the course you’ll have the opportunity to develop the skills to play a full part in teaching and curriculum development.

Upon successful completion of your postgraduate studies, progression onto the Masters in Education Studies may also be of interest.

Occasional changes to modules and course content may take place. Trainees will be notified when applicable.
