You’ll study the ways in which people and businesses respond to incentives, and the production and allocation of resources. In the first two years you’ll cover both macroeconomics – the economy as a whole including themes such as unemployment, taxation, investment and inflation; and microeconomics – the behaviour and motivations of individuals and companies. You’ll also learn to apply quantitative techniques to investigate relationships between economic variables. Final-year options apply this core knowledge to more specialised areas such as labour, industrial and health economics, technology and innovation, and business cycles. You can also choose from a number of finance modules. The minimum academic requirement is to achieve 60 credits overall, with 45 credits at Level 3, of which 30 credits must be at Distinction, and 15 credits at Merit or higher. Applications are considered on a case by case basis. Applicants will also be expected to achieve, or have already achieved, A level Mathematics at grade A. International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme36 6,6,6 in HL subjects, to include a minimum of 6 in SL Mathematics, if not being studied at HL.
