You’ll study the core foundations of legal knowledge while gaining legal work experience on campus. As a result, you’ll gain the skills, experience, contacts and credentials you need to kick-start your legal career. <br/><br/>**How You Learn**<br/><br/>All our courses are designed around a set of key principles based on engaging you with the world, collaborating with others, challenging you to think in new ways, and providing you with a supportive environment in which you can thrive.<br/><br/>We have highly motivated, knowledgeable and creative staff across the department. They bring a breadth and depth of knowledge and skills from legal practice. This enables high-quality learning of the core aspects of the discipline – as well as a range of specialist topics and areas of study.<br/><br/>You learn through:<br/><br/><br/>- online lectures<br/><br/><br/>- two-hour workshops<br/><br/><br/>- group work and presentations<br/><br/><br/>- practically-based case studies<br/><br/><br/>- professional work-based learning<br/><br/><br/>**Applied learning**<br/><br/>Live projects:<br/><br/>You will spend 12 weeks working for two days a week in our on-campus law firm – SHU Law Ltd. Here you’ll gain vital practical experience under the supervision of practising lawyers. You’ll advise and assist on cases in areas such as litigation, private client, personal injury and employment law.<br/><br/>Through this experience, you’ll gain practical, transferable skills and experience – such as teamwork, oral and written communication, legal writing and drafting, advocacy and commercial awareness. These will enhance your graduate skills and impress future employers.<br/><br/>You’ll also have the opportunity to engage in mooting and debating – representing fictitious clients in appeals before the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court, in our on-campus moot court. <br/><br/>Networking opportunities:<br/><br/>You’ll create and develop your professional network by working under the supervision of qualified solicitors and paralegals – as well as liaising with lawyers and other professionals. Our excellent links with the local, regional and national legal profession mean you can gain valuable work experience opportunities and benefit from guest lectures from legal experts.<br/><br/>Competitions:<br/><br/>Our Mooting and Debating Society members take part in internal and national competitions – where we’ve enjoyed considerable success.
