Students have the opportunity to undertake a work placement with a wide range of organisations and apply theoretical and practical skills developed throughout the core courses.<br/><br/>**WHY THIS PROGRAMME**<br/>- You will be studying in the South of Scotland where the landscape offers opportunities for multiple field visits to study real case examples of risks linked to natural hazards (in the sea, on the coast, on land)<br/><br/><br/>- There will be a choice between a dissertation or work placement in the last semester<br/><br/><br/>- The opportunity to hear from guest lecturers from government and non-government organisations, from international agencies and from academia<br/><br/><br/>- You will develop subject-specific knowledge of environmental risk management with broad-application from local to global levels.<br/><br/><br/>**PROGRAMME STRUCTURE**<br/><br/>There are 4 core courses of 20 credits each. Learners will have to take 2 optional courses from a list of 6 courses. They will have the choice between a dissertation or work placement (60 credits).<br/><br/>Teaching approaches consist of a mixture of lectures, seminars and tutorials, solution focused workshop sessions (including laboratory sessions) and field-based study. The programme aims to develop graduate attributes using different assessment approaches including group-work, reports, essays, practical classes, dissertation/placement, laboratory analysis and presentations. In some courses there is an emphasis on investigation, self-study, seminars and more in-depth analysis of topics. Subject specific and research skills are developed through extended practical projects.<br/><br/>The courses involve formal classroom contact, tutor-led practical exercises and e-learning. Field, laboratory and computer based practical skills and associated quantitative analysis and data interpretation, form key outcomes of the programme.
