The programme has been designed with input from major industry players to ensure that current skill gaps and emerging skill needs are being addressed.<br/><br/>**Please note that this programme is suitable for intercalating medical students.**<br/><br/>This programme will provide you with in-depth scientific knowledge of the subject and its application. It will equip you with a strong background in biology, statistical analyses, computing skills, and knowledge necessary to work in different areas of biotechnology. You will be taught by our internationally renowned scientists, in collaboration with internationally excellent Research Centres, including the University of Liverpool Computational Biology Facility, the newly established Centre for Metabolomics, the Centre for Proteomics, and the Centre for Genomic Research and the Materials Innovation Factory.<br/><br/>This programme provides you with the necessary knowledge and skills to become a professional scientist in your chosen area of biotechnology. It has been specifically designed to enhance students’ careers in different biotechnology sectors in a variety of research, product and technology development, and leadership roles.<br/><br/>If Biotechnology is your interest, upon successful completion of the MSc you may wish to continue with your education by studying for a PhD.<br/><br/>**Career prospects**<br/>Past graduates of the School of Life Sciences have continued their academic careers as research assistants or pursued further study leading to a PhD. Graduates have also developed careers in conservation or qualified to immediately go into industries. There is a demand currently for graduates with specialisations in science or computing to enter the teaching profession. Commercial sectors such as the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and agriculture industries will be possible employers of graduates, especially with the anticipated increases in the use of next-generation sequencing and the corresponding data analysis that will be required. <br/><br/>Graduates with an MSc in Biotechnology are well qualified to enter a wide range of employment. These opportunities include careers for postgraduates in general, such as management, accountancy and human resources, where the skills obtained in the degree programme will be of considerable benefit.
