Intellectual History PhD

We combine a long tradition in a field of scholarship pioneered at Sussex with a commitment to fostering new and emerging fields of inquiry.<br/><br/>Core supervisory expertise is offered in:<br/><br/><br/>- British political thought c1500-1900<br/><br/><br/>- early modern intellectual history<br/><br/><br/>- the Scottish Enlightenment and 18th-century political thought<br/><br/><br/>- political thought in 19th-century Europe.<br/><br/><br/>We also welcome outstanding applications in adjacent areas that reflect Sussex’s interdisciplinary approach to intellectual history, which has traditionally spanned history, literature, philosophy, classics, politics, economics and theology.<br/><br/>We understand that deciding where and what to study is a very important decision.
