Overview<br/><br/>Get ready to pursue a career in the biological sciences with UWS’s BSc (Hons) Applied Bioscience programme. <br/><br/>You’ll receive hands-on training in a wide range of biology disciplines to establish your knowledge before progressing to study more advanced and research-linked topics.<br/><br/>Work-related learning combined with access to UWS’s state of the art laboratories will prepare you for a wide range of career options.<br/><br/>Large amounts of practical work, experience with modern techniques and developing research skills are key strengths of the programme as is the option to undertake a work placement in Year 3.<br/><br/>Employers regularly comment that graduates have the necessary skills to contribute effectively and productively in the workplace.<br/><br/>Programme highlights<br/><br/>• This programme equips you with the skills to pursue a career within biological sciences<br/>including molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology and immunology.<br/>• You’ll receive hands-on training in biological disciplines before progressing to study more specialised and advanced bioscience topics.<br/>• Work-related learning, combined with access to UWS’s state-of-the-art laboratories, will prepare you for a wide range of career options.<br/>• This programme is fully accredited by the Royal Society of Biology and you will be eligible for free membership to the Society throughout all years of your studies.<br/><br/>Programme details<br/><br/>Work-related learning is available on this programme, including an optional 12-week placement or one-year sandwich placement.<br/><br/>Students have undertaken placements with organisations such as:<br/><br/>• Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow<br/>• Devro<br/>• Controlled Therapeutics (Scotland) Ltd<br/><br/>Careers<br/><br/>This programme will prepare you for a successful career in Applied Bioscience and develops graduate skills which equip students to enter a wide range of vocations, including:<br/><br/>• Industry<br/>• Research<br/>• Teaching<br/>• Analytical laboratories<br/>• Sales<br/><br/>MSc or PhD options are also available for graduates. This qualification is acceptable to all Schools of Education as an entry qualification to the Postgraduate Diploma in Education for Biology and General Science teaching.
