Course information<br/><br/>**OVERVIEW**<br/><br/>The BSc Dental Nursing programme prepares potential graduates to begin the study of dental nursing as a discipline. This is a full time, 3-year UWS approved degree programme, delivered at New College Lanarkshire (NCL), Coatbridge campus under a collaborative partnership agreement. <br/><br/>PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHTS<br/><br/>• The overall aims of the programme are to encourage students to study Dental Nursing as a professional discipline and prepare for Professional Registration with the General Dental Council by the end of year 1. For the first year of the BSc Dental Nursing programme (AY 2025/26), students completing SCQF level 7 will have their achievements mapped to the existing Level 7 qualification with GDC registration through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This will enable GDC registration to be acquired for this cohort.<br/>• The programme enables dental nurses to meet the requirements of a modern dental care system, working in a multi-professional team and demonstrating leadership and management abilities. <br/>• As part of the programme, students also participate in work-based learning each year to support the student developing practical skills in a professional environment. <br/><br/>PROGRAMME DETAILS<br/><br/>Students on this programme will study at the state-of-the-art dental facility at NCL Coatbridge campus and as UWS students will have access to UWS facilities. UWS has experience of delivering a range of professional Health programmes. NCL has over 30 years of experience in offering dental nursing programmes nationally and internationally. The course is designed to be practical in nature and up-to-date equipment, teaching methods and simulation facilities are used. <br/><br/>CAREERS<br/><br/>Through studying on this UWS programme in collaboration with NCL, graduates will develop attributes across the three dimensions which encapsulate the breadth of the learning experience at university level: Academic, Personal and Professional. UWS I am UWS graduate attributes have been developed to reflect the vision that students are Universal, Work Ready and Successful. This is achieved by ensuring the programme can develop relevant academic, personal, and professional attributes within those students undertaking the programme. The I am UWS graduate attributes are incorporated within each module descriptor and associated assessments.<br/><br/>The Dental Nursing curriculum focuses on a student-centred approach which supports and enables the learner to participant in their own learning, prioritising their needs, interests, and abilities to achieve their full potential and to take responsibility for their planning, and career development.<br/>Dental nursing graduates can pursue roles as dental nurses in various settings, including; NHS and private dental practice; hospitals; community clinics; speciality dental settings; as well as educational settings.<br/>Graduates may choose to peruse further education by enrolling in postgraduate programmes such as a Master of Science (MSc) in Nursing, Master of Public Health or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) to become a dentist. By staying informed about industry trends, networking with potential employers, dental nursing graduates can enhance their employment prospects and explore fulfilling career paths in the field of dental healthcare.
