Marketing Degree Entry Requirements
Marketing is a hugely popular course across the UK. The course focuses on advertising, finance, communications and general business.
Entry requirements are always varied across the world of education. Some universities have higher entry requirements than others for their courses, while others may have lower requirements.
It is important that you look for the best university for you when you consider studying for a marketing degree. Nevertheless, you should still consider these courses' entry requirements before applying.
What is a Marketing degree?
A marketing degree is a broad subject that encompasses various subjects. Generally, marketing degrees focus on how businesses advertise themselves and their products.
Modules are varied and often spill over into different subject areas. Typically, you will be studying advertising, finance, communications, management and business accounting, among others.
Marketing degree entry requirements
The university entry requirements will vary depending on where you apply. Some universities will have higher entry requirements than others, while others will favour those with other attributes or things in their favour, such as related work experience.
Type | Min. grades/points required overall | Max. grades/points required overall | Average grades/points required |
---|---|---|---|
UCAS points | 116 | 188 | 144 |
A Levels | CCD | AAB | BBC |
BTEC | MMP | DDM | DMM |
International Baccalaureate | 28 | 45 | 37 |
Not all universities will accept the same qualifications. For example, not all universities recognise certain qualifications such as T Levels, while others may. You must speak to the university beforehand to see if they accept this qualification.
A Levels
A Levels are accepted by all universities. To study marketing courses at university, you will need to have grades in at least maths and English. Other subjects can be accepted too. However, universities tend to favour one or both of the other two.
BTECs
A BTEC is the second-most common qualification accepted in the UK. Generally, you can study a marketing BTEC or a tangentially related subject and still be accepted. English can also be accepted.
IELTS
The IELTS is a qualification designed specifically for international students. Generally, you will need a decent score, usually around 6.0, to study for a marketing degree.
International Baccalaureate
As with the IELTS, the International Baccalaureate is only for international students. Generally, to study a degree like this, you must have a 6,6,5 or a 6,6,6 at a Higher Level. Grade 4 or 5 at Standard Level may be accepted for English.
T Levels
Not all universities accept T Levels as a qualification. Some will, while some will not. Generally, you will want to find a subject that is as closely related to marketing, such as “Digital production, design and development”.
What is the best university to study for a Marketing degree?
The best university to study marketing will generally depend on you and what you need from the university. Some universities may specialise in teaching marketing, while others may not. However, just because a university specialises in teaching a specific subject does not mean that it is the best one for you.
You need to think about what you, as a student, need. Do you prefer a university with a higher emphasis on teaching? Do you prefer a university with the best accommodation? Do you want the university to have excellent industry ties? Or do you prefer a university with a teaching or assessment style better suited to your abilities? All of these are things to consider when making your choices.
How to write a Marketing personal statement
Your marketing personal statement should be written like any other. Generally, when writing these statements, you must speak about yourself in detail and your love of the subject.
From a personal standpoint, ensure that you speak about the things you like. If you can relate these to marketing somehow, that will be useful. However, it is not a problem if you can’t. Speak about your hobbies and interests, what you like to do in your spare time and any volunteering or work experience you have done. Personal achievements are also good to include here too.
As for marketing, speak about how much you like the subject. What got you interested in the subject? What area of marketing interests you the most? These are key aspects that need to be touched on. Equally, if you have read any marketing books, or watched any films, TV shows, YouTube videos, or TikToks about marketing, then be sure to mention them and their impact on you.
What jobs can I get with a Marketing degree?
You do not need just to find jobs in marketing. As this is such a wide and varied degree and one that is so popular across multiple industries, you will generally be able to find work across a myriad of sectors.
The most common jobs to find with a marketing degree are:
- Business adviser
- Copywriter
- Digital marketer
- Digital marketer
- Marketing executive
- Media buyer
- Product manager
- SEO specialist
- Social media manager
- UX/UI manager
It is also possible to become a teacher or lecturer too. To do this, however, you will need to have a PGCE degree or a Masters in Education before you do this.
Can you find Marketing degrees during Clearing?
Marketing is a hugely popular career. Most universities will offer a marketing course for students, so you can generally expect to find Clearing marketing courses when Clearing starts.
As this will be a Clearing course, you will generally find that the entry requirements will likely be lower. These courses may include a foundation year or will have slightly different modules.
