LLB Law Personal Statement

Law is a fundamental part of our society in that it ultimately shapes our character and continuously intertwines itself to our everyday life. Consequently, Law is omnipresent. I am fascinated with the way that Law evolves and adapts over time and is also an extremely diverse subject that may not be comprehended by others but continues to impact our entire world. Studying Law at university would be a tremendous honour allowing me to further develop my passion for law and aid me in gaining a deeper insight into what law is.

University is a life-changing experience. A new found independence. As of now, my peers perceive me to be empathetic, that will allow me to be brutally honest and an excellent listener, due to these characteristics I often find myself advising and comforting friends. This has allowed me to gain confidence in my decision making and has enabled me to assess situations thoroughly a skill that I know can be transferred into a Law degree. At University I wish to achieve a greater sense of confidence, an accelerated development of certain skills. The thought of adapting to the various styles of teaching completely thrills me; learning is something I have come to realise is a part of my life that I never want to lose. I absolutely relish learning about different cultures, gaining a deeper understanding of the world around us and appreciating the wonders of life. This has encouraged me to teach myself Spanish using my own resources, a skill I can use for a lifetime. I believe that the curiosity that lives within me is what will keep my mind anticipating new knowledge; knowledge that can be achieved through a Law degree with the diverse modules available to chose from in the second year. I was first introduced to Law in the early stages of Year 9 where something compelled me to choose law as one of my GCSE subjects , I had entered my class with a clear mind and was left extremely surprised with how thoroughly I enjoyed my Law lessons , I had fallen in love with Law, in love with the way it was ever- changing to issues in society and how in favour of people it was, an example; Battered Woman Syndrome a defence available for plea in Murder Cases, this shows an understanding of human nature and adapts to that and that is what really fascinates me the most about Law. I believe at University I will have endless resources to aid me in developing my knowledge for my future and will act as a stepping stone to my goal of becoming a Solicitor.

To ensure that a career in law was really suitable to my character I completed 3 day course of work experience at the world-renowned Denton's in Muscat last summer , this was an opportunity I sought out myself to get an insight into how things really work in a Law firm, during these 3 days I was given small but informative administrative tasks such as research tasks and finalising details on deals. These tasks really enhanced my research and analysis skills to a professional level, working in another country with drastically different norms and values also really challenged and pushed me out of my comfort zone, in turn, increased my confidence levels. I believe this experience will help me with my journey at University, with being pushed into new territory I feel strongly that I will swiftly adapt to change because of this experience. As my fascination in Law continues to increase I find myself integrating law into my life, I read numerous issues of 'The Law Review ' which really enables me to connect the law I have learnt at GCSEs with real situations in society and see how laws are reviewed and evaluated to fit cases.

Studying Law at University has slowly become a burning passion of mine, it is a subject that truly motivates me to achieve at the best of my ability, I wish to be given the opportunity to portray this determination and passion at University.
