The BA Floristry Design Top Up is designed for students who have successfully completed the Foundation Degree in Floristry or an appropriate level 5 qualification in floristry and wish to top up to gain an honours degree award.

The programme provides you with a balanced approach to design theory, research, practical application, analysis and evaluation in floristry, to further enhance your employability and career development within the floristry industry.

The programme will introduce relevant live projects, commercial and client-focused activity through a final exhibition of students work and a design installation. These will encourage you to explore and experiment with design techniques and materials outside the context in which you first studied, proposing new and exciting ways to approach floristry design.

It is intended that this approach will allow you to follow your own creative direction whilst under the supervision of dedicated specialist tutors. The content is specifically intended to meet the exacting and demanding requirements of the floristry event industry and to deliver the highest levels of design innovation and enterprise demanded.

**What will I study?**
The programme aims to:
- Provide students with a curriculum that encourages experimentation of creative skills within floristry design, whilst finely tuning professional skills to enable the students to effectively plan and gain sustainable employment.

- Produce graduates with an entrepreneurial mind-set and skills to generate original ideas in response to identified needs and shortfalls within the floristry industry, with the ability to act upon this in personal development planning.

- Produce capable and well-rounded independent graduates with higher-level practical skills that can contribute to the wider economy and developments taking place, particularly in relation to the Floristry Industry.

- Provide a flexible learning environment that enables students to shift from an abstracted study to developing knowledge and skills that can help them adapt to changing and future environments.

**Learning and Teaching Approach**
This programme is delivered with a variety of learning and teaching approaches to include all students learning styles and preferences.

For all modules, theory lectures will deliver the core content and provide the underpinning knowledge. To complement the theory lectures, students will have practical demonstration sessions that are used to reinforce concepts delivered theoretically.

Study at this level demonstrates increasing sophistication of design thinking and critical analysis within the design process. There is an expectation for considerable self–direction and independence particularly within the Creative Research Project and Final Exhibition.

**What is the contact time?**
The full-time pathway includes approximately 12 hours a week, incorporating lectures, seminars, debates and tutorials. You are also expected to carry out a significant amount of private study in addition to contact time (25-30 hours a week). A part-time option is also available. Students can expect to receive their timetables during induction week.

**What kind of job could I get when I graduate?**
Upon graduating students can progress into a wide range of careers in the industry at a senior level or working in retail floristry including: Freelance Florist Floristry Business/Venture Teaching Opportunities Private Flower School Wedding Planner Corporate Events Planner Overseas Florist; Floristry Judge (upon completion of further qualifications) British Flower Grower Flower/Foliage Wholesaler Retail Florist Manager
