In the lab, you’ll gain the practical and theoretical skills needed to design experiments and test hypotheses.

During the fourth and final year, you’ll gain an insight into life as a research scientist through a major project in your preferred area of chemistry, supervised by one of our top academics.

**Find your feet and then finalise your path**
As our Chemistry BSc shares a common curriculum with the more in-depth MChem for the first two years, you can decide to transfer from the BSc to MChem (subject to academic achievement) at the start of year three.

**Student experience**
“Baltimore was an amazing city and I enjoyed meeting new people in a scientific field in a different country. When I came back for my final year, I was able to do my lab work much more effectively.”
Gregory, Cardiff Chemistry with a Placement Year Abroad student
