Biomedical Science (GCU Pathways) BSc (Hons)

<strong>THIS PROGRAMME IS AVAILABLE TO SCOTTISH-DOMICILED APPLICANTS ONLY</strong><br/><br/>Pathways students enrol on the undergraduate BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science (GCU Pathways) at Glasgow Caledonian University. In the first year, youll study HNC Applied Science at Glasgow Kelvin College while preparing for years 2, 3 and 4 (for Honours) of the degree at GCU.<br/><br/>Although you are a student enrolled on BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science (GCU Pathways) course at GCU, Year1 of the course will take place at Glasgow Kelvin College.<br/><br/>The first year will involve you working towards achieving an HNC in Applied Science and the subjects you study will underpin the teaching at Glasgow Caledonian University in Year 2, 3 and Year 4 of the degree, BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science.<br/><br/>Biomedical scientists carry out laboratory tests on specimens sent for analysis by GPs and other healthcare professionals. Biomedical Science is vital for the clinical diagnosis of disease and accurate treatment of patients and the operation of the NHS and other health-related industries.<br/><br/>You will gain the knowledge and skills needed to become a biomedical scientist, including cellular pathology, clinical biochemistry, haematology, and clinical microbiology. A key strength of the course is a work-based placement in a Scottish hospital by selection. International students are not eligible for consideration for placement. <br/><br/>The aims of this programme are <br/>- provide an understanding of the scientific investigation of human health and disease;<br/><br/><br/>- produce graduates who have developed the skills, knowledge and competence to practice in Biomedical Science;<br/><br/><br/>- develop laboratory skills to allow students to make valid scientific measurements;<br/><br/><br/>- produce graduates who are able to integrate theory and practice and who are critical, reflective thinkers;<br/><br/><br/>- encourage the development of creative and innovative thinking through a range of approaches;<br/><br/><br/>- foster an ethos of career-long, self-directed learning through continuous professional development;<br/><br/><br/>- provide students with a supportive learning environment; <br/><br/><br/>- be inclusive of all sectors of society and be responsive to the needs of individuals, employers and stakeholders.<br/><br/><br/>In addition, Honours students undertaking the project will:<br/>• Conduct a literature survey to support an investigative project;<br/><br/><br/><br/>• Propose reasoned lines of further investigation;<br/><br/><br/><br/>• Design and prepare a project under supervision<br/><br/>
