Course Overview - Linguistics BA (Hons)

This degree focuses on how language works, how it is structured and what it does, from the physical properties of speech, to how languages change and develop over time. You learn about the growth and development of language in the brain as well as methodologies for the scientific study of the human language faculty. In addition, you study a modern language from a choice of French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Chinese or Japanese.

Candidates who have some background in Maths and Science may be interested in the cognitive/brain science and quantitative elements of the course. Candidates who prefer Arts and Humanities subjects may be interested in the historical, sociological, and literary elements of the course.
