Combine the study of the classical world with modern history and discover how the ancient world has shaped modern society.<br/><br/>On our BA Honours in Ancient History and History you’ll develop a diverse set of research, communication, and critical analysis skills that will set you on a path to wide range of careers.<br/><br/>Build cultural awareness by making connections with the past and understanding important issues in history.<br/><br/>Examine historical issues such as political change, gender and sexuality, conflict, or even historical representation in film.<br/><br/>Discover the global ancient world using a variety of evidence. From analysing ancient texts to studying historical artefacts, youll develop a broad range of skills.<br/><br/>Be inspired by our unique location. Your classroom extends beyond the University and into North East England’s diverse heritage. From Hadrians Wall to Bamburgh Castle on the Northumbrian coast, theres a rich past to discover on our doorstep.<br/><br/>Key features:<br/>Youll explore a range of global histories and develop your skills as a historian through compulsory modules. While optional modules allow you to tailor your degree to your interests. <br/><br/>Choose from a range of modules covering the Roman World and Hellenistic Empires, to fictional histories and slavery in the ancient, modern and early modern periods. <br/><br/>You’ll also have the opportunity to discover the societies and cultures of the past, explore the culture and literature of the Greek and Roman world, and study an ancient language. <br/><br/>On this degree you’ll have the opportunity to:         <br/><br/>Learn from experts in the ancient world and history, from the culture and literature of Ancient Greece to the history of Medieval Japan <br/>Access world-class facilities, including the University’s Special Collections and Archives department and Great North Museum <br/>Enhance your employability by taking a 12-month year work placement and put your learning into practice<br/>Study abroad for a year at one of our partner institutions
