Industry 4.0 or the 4th Industrial Revolution sees machines and computers working together.

This programme will give you an invaluable insight into the future of manufacturing. Its like giving manufacturing processes a high-tech makeover where we connect machines and equipment to digital systems. Using Data Analytics, engineers can make quick decisions and predict the future with the support of Artificial Intelligence.

Many local manufacturing facilities are highly automated and are ready to take the next steps into digitally transforming their operations. In order to do so, it is important that their engineers and technicians understand the fundamentals of mechatronics and automation but also have the skills to help transform the business. On this programme you will learn the fundamentals but will also gain a valuable insight into how data analytics and AI can help take operations to the next level. For factories that have older equipment, you will learn how to integrate older equipment into digital systems using industrial internet of things (IIOT) solutions.

About the course
This 2-year Foundation Degree is delivered over 4 semesters. In year 1 learners will cover core engineering principles and practices whilst gaining an appreciation of new and emerging technologies. In year 2 of the programme students will continue to study a range of contemporary modules whilst having the opportunity to undertake a structured work-based learning placement within the engineering industry.

It is the responsibility of the student to obtain a suitable work placement employer, however, the college may be able to provide some assistance. This is a 2-Year Programme and course fees are payable in each year of study.

How will it make me more employable?
his course will equip you with formal qualifications which will improve your job opportunities and employability skills in the engineering sector.

You will also gain a range of soft skills regarded as highly desirable by employers and you will receive training on a wide range of industry standard equipment and software.

Technical Skills
• CAD skills (for example Solidworks)
• Practical skills (PLCs, Mechatronics, programming)
• Design Tools and Techniques
• Project Management Skills

Employability Skills
• Critical Thinking
• Emotional Intelligence
• Entrepreneurship
• Leadership
• Reflective Practice
• Decision Making
• Team Working

Where will it take me?
Successful completion of this course will enable you to apply for jobs in the engineering/manufacturing industry or alternatively, you would be eligible to apply to related degree programmes.
