This four-year degree course allows students to scrutinise the structures and sounds of English, examine the internal processes underlying language production and comprehension, and investigate the causes and effects of language choice. You will be equipped to conduct language analysis in diverse critical contexts including health care communication, human-machine intelligence, educational reform, language-related policy making, forensic analysis, diagnosing and managing communication disorders, social media communication and across multilingual communities.Through the course you will gain training and experience working with practitioners and industry partners and will benefit from on campus resources including our eye-tracker suite and language labs. The third year will be spent gaining additional skills and experience with a Year in Industry. Lingusitics is ranked 1st in the UK for Learning Opportunities and English Language at Swansea is ranked 5th in the UK for Teaching (Nss 2023). Graduates enter careers in sectors including speech and language therapy, health care, education and teaching. Outside of your studies you can get involved in campus life by joining a wide range of clubs and societies including the Applied Linguistics Society, which holds monthly events, guest lectures and publishes its annual Swansea University Applied Linguistics Journal. This course can also be studied as a four-year degree with a Year Abroad.
