Study human health and the causes, prevention and treatment of disease, studied from the molecular details in the body to the symptoms and pathology of diseases.<br/><br/>This course will equip you with the skills and knowledge to be a part of the next generation of biomedical research scientists.<br/><br/>You’ll learn to apply biological sciences to explore human health and the causes, prevention and treatment of diseases such as cancer and Parkinson’s disease. Youll study a broad range of topics including genetics, genomics, human physiology, cancer, pathology, infection and immunity, molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry and pharmacology.<br/><br/>Benefit from multi-departmental teaching:<br/>Developed in collaboration with our Department for Health and pharmacology researchers in the Department of Life Sciences, youll benefit from specialist knowledge of human biology and pharmacology, providing you with a more in-depth understanding of biomedical sciences.<br/><br/>In the first two years, you will study a set of core units across both departments, with the opportunity to choose optional units in the second and penultimate year.<br/><br/>If you want a more in-depth study experience, you could consider applying for our MBiomed (Hons) Biomedical Sciences course.<br/><br/>Undertake a dedicated research project:<br/>In your final year, you’ll carry out your own research project, giving you first-hand experience as a researcher and the opportunity to contribute to the leading research of our academics. We have world-leading research centres, covering areas including evolution and mathematical biology.<br/><br/>Develop your professional skills:<br/>Youll be exposed to a wide variety of opportunities to develop transferable professional skills, including problem-solving, IT, communications, time management, research and analysis, and team working. We aim for our graduates to be adaptable and creative problem solvers, ready for a career in an ever-changing world.<br/><br/>Gain hands-on experience in specialist labs:<br/>You’ll spend time learning practical scientific techniques in our well-equipped teaching labs. You’ll also have access to a computer lab for bioinformatics. It is important that you are covering enough of our essential and preferred optional units to make sure that you have sufficient Biology and Chemistry preparation for our course.
