Develop a portfolio of skills in production, criticism, research, entrepreneurship, promotion and marketing through a range of practical and concept-based projects. You’ll dive into a broad range of genres within film and TV – from independent cinema to Hollywood blockbusters, and from classic sitcoms to cutting edge documentaries.
* Learn the practice of filmmaking from award-winning experts, and enhance your creative skills with key theories and concepts. Balance classroom-based study with hands-on creative learning in our state-of-the-art facilities. You'll find yourself working in a range of settings, including iMac studio spaces and editing suites, with access to professional cameras and audio recording equipment. It's ideal preparation for roles in sectors as varied as the creative arts, journalism, media and marketing.
* Experience lectures, seminars and workshops guided by experienced, global film industry experts including filmmakers, screenwriters and critics.
* As part of an international team of academics and screen-focused organisations, the department’s Dr Chris Nunn helped the University of Birmingham co-produce and edit its first feature-length documentary.
* As official sponsors for the Birmingham Film Festival, the department were invited to present awards at the festival’s gala dinner and celebrate film production and creativity taking place in the city.
