Law and Politics LLB (Hons)

Our joint programmes allow you to study law alongside another academic discipline. Over four years of study, you will take a range of courses from both the Law School and the School of Social and Political Science.<br/><br/>The joint LLB Law and Politics programme aims to promote advanced knowledge and understanding of the theory, concepts and rules of law.<br/><br/>You will also gain an understanding of:<br/><br/><br/>* the choices that political systems must regularly make<br/><br/><br/>* the processes that maintain or change those systems<br/><br/><br/>* the concepts and values used in political analysis<br/><br/><br/><strong>Politics</strong><br/><br/>Politics studies the theory and practice of how societies are governed:<br/><br/><br/>* How do our political institutions create collective rules?<br/><br/><br/>* Who has the power to make these rules, and what are the consequences of political decisions?<br/><br/><br/>* What is the nature of a just society, and how do we get there?<br/><br/><br/>Drawing on the expertise of leading academics and researchers in the field, you will explore the origins and present-day contexts of societal conflicts about power, participation, and resources.<br/><br/>You will study not only the processes of governance at the local, national, and international levels but also the morality of political action and the limits of freedom and justice.<br/><br/><strong>Programme benefits</strong><br/><br/><br/>* Edinburgh Law School has been educating and training some of the world’s finest legal minds for more than 300 years.<br/><br/><br/>* Studying in Scotland’s capital, you will be at the heart of Edinburgh’s legal centre, with the highest courts in Scotland a five-minute walk away.<br/><br/><br/>* You will benefit from access to some of the best academic law materials in Europe in our law library.<br/><br/><br/>* You will join a supportive law community and be assigned to a LawPALS group.
