You will be especially well-equipped to pursue an academic career in medicine, where ongoing practical involvement in research as a physician-scientist is paramount.<br/><br/><strong>Programme benefits</strong><br/><br/><br/>* We are the only Scottish institution to offer a six-year MBChB programme, which includes a full year of research-based study in Year 3.<br/><br/><br/>* You will receive clinical training throughout your studies, preparing you to become a competent, ethical and reflective doctor. Training comprises of clinical placements in the city’s teaching hospitals and other regional sites mainly across the south of Scotland, in general practices in south-east Scotland, and in our state-of-the-art clinical skills and simulation suites.<br/><br/><br/>* Our programme includes an academic year of research-based study in a biomedical or related subject of your choosing. This means you will graduate with two qualifications, a BMedSci (Hons) and an MBChB. In addition to your clinical studies, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience of laboratory-based scientific research.<br/><br/><br/>* Edinburgh Medical School has been leading medical education, training and research for more than 300 years. AAAAB by end of S5 and BB at Advanced Higher in S6. Required subjects: Highers: Chemistry and two from Biology/Human Biology, Mathematics/Applications of Mathematics or Physics. For some applicants this subject combination is not possible at S5. If you meet the grade requirements in S5 but are missing one or more sciences, you may take the missing subject(s) in S6. Only one of Mathematics/Applications of Mathematics can be accepted as part of the three required subjects. However, we can accept both subjects in your other Highers to meet the overall grade requirement. Only one of Biology or Human Biology will be considered. Only one of Advanced Higher Mathematics or Advanced Higher Mathematics of Mechanics will be considered. National 5s: Biology, Chemistry, English and Mathematics at B. We accept Higher Applications of Mathematics at C in place of National 5 Mathematics at B. Offers are conditional on S6 performance.

SL: 666 to include Mathematics: Analysis and approaches or Mathematics: Applications and interpretation, English and Biology (if not at HL). If Mathematics and English Language do not form part of your IB diploma we will also accept GCSE, or equivalent, at A or 7.

Only one of Biology or Human Biology will be considered. GCSEs: Biology, Chemistry, English and Mathematics at A or 7. Double Award combined sciences, or equivalent, at AA/77 may replace GCSE grades in sciences. Additional Applied Science and Applied Science are not accepted.
