Spanish and Business MA (Hons)

Spanish is the official language in 20 countries and is widely spoken in four more territories, including the United States. As well as having over 400 million native speakers, it is spoken as a second language by around nine million people, globally, making it an excellent partner subject to Business.<br/><br/>We are unique in Scotland in offering students a full academic year abroad within the four-year honours programme, regardless of whether you spend the year studying or working.<br/><br/><strong>Spanish</strong><br/><br/>Spanish at Edinburgh celebrated its centenary in 2019. Our wide-ranging courses are taught by leading experts in their field.<br/><br/>You will receive intensive language training, giving you the opportunity to develop advanced spoken and written skills in the Spanish language. Alongside courses in local and global business, you will study Spanish and associated cultures over the full four years, and be able to take more option courses in Years 1 and 2.<br/><br/>During your Year Abroad in Year 3, you will complete an independent piece of research on a contemporary business issue relating to the country in which you are studying or working.<br/><br/>In Year 4, in addition to Spanish language and cultural study, you will choose three honours-level courses from options on different aspects of business.<br/><br/>When you graduate, you will have the combination of broad cultural education and specialist business and language skills valued by employers worldwide.<br/><br/><strong>How long it takes to complete this degree programme</strong><br/><br/>This programme is studied over 4 years, including a year abroad. This enables us to build choice and flexibility into your studies, giving you time to explore options, find what you like and build your skills.<br/><br/>Your first two years will be your pre-honours years. They will give you a good grounding in your subjects. In addition to studying core courses, you will broaden your education and skill set by choosing option courses from a range of subjects and disciplines. This may enable you to change the focus of your programme.<br/><br/>Your final two years will be your honours years. You will spend Year 3 abroad, immersing yourself in Spanish-speaking cultures.
