**Why History?**
Our course explores some of the fundamental issues, events, and ideas that have shaped the modern world, from the Enlightenment and the discovery of the New World, religious upheaval, the rise of European empires, slavery, the birth of nation states, to the onset of global conflict in the 20th century, totalitarian movements, decolonisation, and movements for social justice.
