**Why Professional Policing?**
In 2020, policing in England and Wales becomes a graduate qualified profession. Licensed by the College of Policing, our course is the first approved Pre-Join Degree in the South West. Based on the National Policing Curriculum, it gives a thorough grounding in the theory and practicalities of modern policing.

Modules cover fundamentals of policing knowledge including legislation; crime investigation; civil emergencies and critical incident management; equality, diversity and human rights; and extremism and counter-terrorism. Live projects set by external organisations such as Gloucester City Safe develop your skills of observation, information collection and analysis. You will attend a residential field trip to examine policing challenges in another part of the UK, and build experience in policing incidents and managing crime scenes via scenarios using our crime scene house, forensic interviewing suite and moot court.

As with all other policing related degree courses, there are no guarantees of entry to a police force post-completion of the BSc (Hons) Professional Policing. Prospective students should be aware that there are associated recruitment processes required when applying to a particular force, including successful completion of the national police recruitment process (e.g. Police SEARCH / Day One Recruit Assessment Centre) and passing medical and fitness tests, and background and security checks (force vetting) before being appointed as a Police Officer.
