This Master of Research programme is designed for those who want to move on to a career in science, whether in academic research, industry or areas of biomedicine research. **Please note this programme is also suitable for intercalating medical students.**

The breadth of research in the Institute of Systems, Molecular and Integrative Biology (ISMIB) covers a diverse range of research interests from molecular to systems biology and human health. Researchers in ISMIB use cutting-edge multi-omics technologies to answer important biological and biomedical questions about health and disease. They are interested in how molecules work when integrated into tissues and organisms in healthy individuals, compared with those experiencing health conditions, and working on the discoveries of the new therapeutics to improve current treatments.

The programme consists of a 120 credit research project, during which you will work alongside PhD students and full-time researchers as a member of one of our research groups. For the part time programme, students take all taught modules in year one, while the research project is taken across year one and two.

The research project forms a large part of the degree. Selecting the right project for you is a key decision and we will help you to choose projects relevant to your interests during admission to the programme. You will also be able to choose from a series of taught modules to ensure that you develop the correct academic background and skills to excel in research.

Another important component of the programme will be the opportunity for non-native English speakers to take a specially designed module in communication skills. This module is taught by members of our English Language Unit and will be designed to improve your English in a scientific context. Please see www.liv.ac.uk/elu for details.

The MRes Advanced Biological Sciences programme has pathways, covering all core areas. The title of your degree award will reflect your pathway of choice:

Advanced Biological Sciences (Animal Sciences)
Advanced Biological Sciences (Bioinformatics)
Advanced Biological Sciences (Biotechnology)
Advanced Biological Sciences (Cell Signalling)
Advanced Biological Sciences (Chemical Biology)
Advanced Biological Sciences (Conservation Biology)
Advanced Biological Sciences (Evolution and Behavioural Biology)
Advanced Biological Sciences (Food Security)
Advanced Biological Sciences (Functional and Comparative Genomics)
Advanced Biological Sciences (Host: Parasite Biology)
Advanced Biological Sciences (Microbiology)
Advanced Biological Sciences (Molecular Oncology)
Advanced Biological Sciences (Plant Sciences)
Advanced Biological Sciences (Structural Biology)
Advanced Biological Sciences (Post Genomic Sciences)

You will be able to choose from a series of taught modules to ensure that you develop the correct academic background and skills to excel in research.
