A combined degree with Classical Studies (75%) provides a broad, coherent understanding of the cultures, histories and literatures of ancient Greece and Rome. It offers interdisciplinary engagement with literary texts, material and visual culture, archaeological data and theoretical approaches, developing your ability to evaluate ancient evidence critically, synthesise arguments, combine data, and situate the Classical world in its wider Mediterranean, Near Eastern and north African context. A third-year capstone project gives you the opportunity to showcase your knowledge and skills through independent research on a topic of your choice. Learning ancient languages is always encouraged, but not required in this programme.

Our Minor in Catalan is designed to develop exceptional linguistic competence, enabling students to reach proficiency by the completion of their studies. Through rigorous and progressive language training, you will refine advanced skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing. Teaching is enriched by authentic cultural texts and contemporary news materials, fostering informed engagement with society across Catalan-speaking regions. A dynamic programme of extracurricular activities further enhances your experience, while an optional Year Abroad strengthens fluency and deepens intercultural understanding. Studying Catalan strengthens your CV, signalling initiative, adaptability and specialist expertise sought by employers at home and internationally.

This programme is available with either a Year in China or a Year Abroad. The Year in China offers undergraduate students the opportunity to spend one year at our joint venture, Xian Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU). You can choose either the China Studies Track, where you will take courses from the China Studies Degree, the Creative Track, or the Entrepreneurship Track . XJTLU is a fully English-speaking university, located in Suzhou. The Year Abroad offers students the opportunity to spend a full academic year studying at one of our partner universities around the world, following a mixture of culture and/or discipline-related modules. If you wish to study this programme with a Year in China or a Year Abroad you will have the opportunity to apply after you arrive at Liverpool.

Combined Degrees

Most Combined Degrees allow you to adapt the weighting of each by 25% after the first year, helping you to keep your options open. Please note, however, students studying either a Business or Economics pathway in combination with another subject cannot increase from 25% to 50% or from 50% to 75% and it is not possible to transfer from a 50% to 75% Law.
