Communication and Media with Spanish BA (Hons)
Course Overview - Communication and Media with Spanish BA (Hons)
Media coverage represents the most important method for communicating key issues and developments in most subject areas to the wider world, so Communication and Media makes an excellent partner for combinations with another subject. This means that you will find plenty of opportunities for crossover between your other subject and Communication and Media. Year one of the Communication and Media part of your programme is made up of compulsory modules that introduce you to fundamental concepts for further study. You then have progressive levels of optionality in years two and three.

You will develop advanced skills in writing, reading, speaking and listening in one of the world’s most important languages, widely spoken in Spain, across North, Central and South America, the Caribbean and extending into the United States. Spanish opens access to dynamic global regions and to rich literary, cinematic and intellectual traditions, alongside major social, cultural and historical debates. An optional Year Abroad in Spain, Latin America, or both, further strengthens fluency and intercultural competence, enhancing your career prospects worldwide.

This programme is available with a Year in Industry, which will be spent on paid placement within an organisation in industry, broadly defined. You will be supported by the School of the Arts and the Department throughout, and your reflexive written account of the experience will contribute towards your final degree result. Please note it is not possible to study both a Year in Industry and a Year Abroad on this programme.

Most Combined Degrees allow you to adapt the weighting of each by 25% after the first year, helping you to keep your options open. Please note, however, students studying either a Business or Economics pathway in combination with another subject cannot increase from 25% to 50% or from 50% to 75% and it is not possible to transfer from a 50% to 75% Law.
