Cultural modules cover a range of specialisms, enabling the study of the literature, films, sociolinguistics, histories and societies of German-speaking countries. A Year Abroad is spent in a German speaking country as a student at a university, an assistant in a school, or on a work placement. If you combine German with another language, you will split the year between two countries.

A 50% joint degree in Archaeology offers the chance to study the long-term histories of human societies through their material remains and impact on past environments. Through lectures, seminars, and practical classes—including four weeks of archaeological fieldwork—you will gain a thorough grounding in archaeological methods, theory, and professional practice (accredited by the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists). You will also develop valuable transferable skills in teamwork, communication, critical analysis, and independent research, with the option to complete an archaeology dissertation in your final year. Archaeology combines well with modern languages, History and Ancient History, Egyptology, Classics, and Classical Studies.

Most Combined Degrees allow you to adapt the weighting of each by 25% after the first year, helping you to keep your options open. Please note, however, students studying either a Business or Economics pathway in combination with another subject cannot increase from 25% to 50% or from 50% to 75% and it is not possible to transfer from a 50% to 75% Law.
